Minimalist Ethiopian Grooves

Led by a former star pupil of 'Ethiopiques' legend Mulatu Astatke, this group rocks it surprisingly hard with minimal instrumentation - as was recently seen when they supported Tinariwen at Koko. With just an ancient 6-stringed krar harp, traditional Ethiopian percussions and vocals, the Krar Kollective (or Krar Collective!) take a big fat sound adding an unexpectedly gritty edge to those wonderful Ethiopian scales and grooves. With skills that have been honed in late night Ethiopian bars entertaining demanding revellers, Krar Kollective are ready to blow you away – in a (belated) celebration of Ethiopian Christmas of 7th January.

More information about the Krar Collective can be found on the Krar Collective myspace website.
