Charity Event - Fundraising event for Getesemani Monastery

Sunday 1st July 2012

An event to promote and raise funds for Getesemani monastery in Sebeta, Ethiopia, is being held on Sunday 1 July at Fenwick Hall, 128 Willington Road, SW9 9NB. The event is being organised by Emhoy Fikerta the Mother Superior of Getesemani monastery and Re'ese Adbarat Saint Mary of Debre Tsion Church, Queenstown Road, Battersea and starts at 2:00pm.

The women in the monastery, as well as committing to a monastic life, have also dedicated themselves to the support and care of over 250 orphaned girls. The girls live in families of 4-6 with a nun 'mother' giving them a sense of family and belonging. The girls are educated at the monastery school alongside children from the local villages until they are 18. They are then helped into further education or work.

The nuns at Getesemani are all extremely hard working. They provide a stable loving home for children who in many cases had been abandoned on the street and they encourage young women to be educated to fulfil their potential.

Tickets are £10 and can be bought in advance or on the day. If you are unable to attend, but would like to donate or sponsor the education of one of the girls please contact Emhoy Fikerta directly via the Getesemani monastery website or telephone 07960464306
