Music - Kazum Presents: Ester Rada
Friday 24th July 2015
Ester Rada will be performing at Rich Mix, 35 - 47 Bethnal Green Road, London, E1 6LA on Friday 24th July. The performance starts at 8:00pm.
Ester Rada's cross-cultural sound is a deep reflection of the Israeli born Ethiopian's heritage. Growing up in a religious Jewish family in more than modest conditions in Israel, gave Rada the drive to change her way of life and fulfil her dream of creating music. Critics describe her genre mixing sound as "gracefully combining Ethio-Jazz, Urban-funk, Neo-Soul and R&B, with mixed undertones of black grooves".
With strong influences from early 20th century soul power women such as Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin; as well as a great appreciation for more contemporary black diva's like Eryka Badu, Lauryn Hill, and Jill Scott; Rada is bringing a new voice to soul that is already spreading worldwide.
Having previously performed at Glastonbury, she's on her way through the UK for the WOMAD festival, making a special East London stop to bring her sultry, sassy and sexy sounds to Rich Mix.
"Her distinctive neo-soul flavor, supported by an ultra-talented Middle-Eastern-infused ensemble, takes super funky, ethno-jazz to new artistic heights." United Reggae
"The Israeli singer with Ethiopian roots has a voice that's classic soul. Her lyrics, though, have the sensibilities of today. A refreshing mix that keeps you listening and grooving." Huffington Post
