The women soldiers written out of African and European history – with Maaza Mengiste and Kamila Shamsie
Join author and Fulbright Scholar Maaza Mengiste for a night of readings and conversation, as she casts light on the women soldiers written out of African and European history. Drawing on her latest book, The Shadow King, which is based Ethiopia in 1935 with the impending invasion of the Italian army, we explore female power and what it means to be a woman at war. Chaired by Kamila Shamsie.

A Fulbright Scholar and professor in the MFA in Creative Writing and Literary Translation programme at Queens College, she is the author of The Shadow King and Beneath the Lion's Gaze, named one of Ten Best Contemporary African Books by The Guardian.
