The legend of Ethiojazz Hailu Mergia is back! After an amazing sold out show at Jazz Cafe in November 2017, Hailu Mergia and Krar Collective return for a mega show at the brand new EartH venue in Dalston. This is the Ethiopian jazz show of the season!! The best of Ethiojazz and Ethioroots!

Hailu Mergia started out playing keyboards for iconic Ethiopian group Walias Band, whose 1977 recording "Muziqawi Silt" is a defining piece of the country's musical history, before going on to work with legendary Ethio jazz vibraphonist Mulatu Astatke. After years of being a taxi driver in Washington DC he's now back on the road with his grooving, uniquely atmospheric Ethiojazz!

Krar Collective serve up a colourful feast of mind-blowing Ethiopian grooves. Led by Temesgen Zeleke, a former student of Ethiojazz legend Mulatu Astatke, they perform a rootsy yet contemporary take on traditional music from Ethiopia based on other-worldly modes and driven by hypnotic rhythms.

"one of the grooviest and most hypnotic bands at Damon Albarn's recent Africa Express bonanza. Expect a funky dance marathon." Time Out

Krar Collective are:

Temesgen Zeleke, krar
Genet Assefa, vocal
Grum Begashaw, kebero
